Last year, painter, writer, craftsman, and all around renaissance man Christopher Benson published a wonderful book: “Art in the Making: Essays by Artists About What They Do”.
It is a wonderful survery of makers from painters and sculptors and photographers, to craftspeople of various stripes, performers, even conceptual artists, all sharing their thoughts about the allegedly simple facts of how we do what we do. Somehow, i got away with contributing an essay on the work of the late great David Park, after having seen his much overdue retrospective at SFMOMA in 2020. It’s my first and only published piece of writing, and i hope you’ll take the time to pick up a copy of this wonderful book, and read it and the many other wonderful contributions from very thoughtfully wide selection of artists.
I’m happy to announce that Evoke Contemporary, in Santa Fe, NM, is putting on an exhibition of works by artists included in the book, and that i have several paintings in the show, including the one above. Exhibition runs from June 30 to August 19th. More coming soon!
